Under Canopy Grow Lights

Under canopy grow lights put light where your main light can't reach — the lower branches and inner canopy that sit in shade once plants fill the tent. Adding light below and inside the canopy helps lower growth develop instead of stretching or stalling, so more of the plant produces.

Under canopy LED lighting for grow tents and grow rooms

Maxibright MaxiLED PRO TS is a 40W horseshoe under canopy LED that sits around the stem on a ground stake pushed into the pot. Each light delivers 108 µmol/s at 2.7 µmol/J, is IP65 rated for the humid lower canopy, runs silently with no fans, and daisy-chains — up to 25 lights from one power lead. Buy single or as a 3 pack.

AC Infinity IONBEAM LED bars are designed for inter-canopy and supplemental lighting, using Samsung LM301H EVO diodes. Mount them between plants or along the sides of the tent to reach areas the top light misses, and run them from an AC Infinity controller.

Under canopy lights: common questions

Are under canopy lights worth it?

They pay off most once the canopy is dense and the top light no longer reaches the lower third of the plant — typically in larger plants, scrog or multi-plant tents during flowering. In a small, open canopy that the main light already covers evenly, the gain is smaller.

How many under canopy lights do I need?

With horseshoe lights like the MaxiLED PRO TS, plan on one per plant. With bars, place them so the shaded lower canopy is covered from more than one side.

When should I run under canopy lighting?

Most growers run under canopy lights on the same schedule as the main light, mainly through flowering. Watch leaf temperature and humidity low in the canopy — added light adds a little heat where air movement is weakest, so keep air circulating with clip fans.
