The LYKYN Smart Mushroom Grow Box Double Layer is the two-tier version of the automated fruiting chamber: the same humidity, airflow and light control from the app, with a second shelf so you can run two ready-to-fruit blocks at once. Grow two species side by side, or stagger two blocks of the same species so there's always something ready to harvest.

Why a chamber rather than a kit

Most mushroom kits fail for one reason: the block dries out. A kit asks you to mist it several times a day and hope the humidity holds. The LYKYN replaces that routine with a 2.8 L ultrasonic humidifier, sensor-controlled fresh-air exchange through a HEPA-filtered intake, and an adjustable LED, all driven by 28 built-in species profiles. One fill of the reservoir lasts up to three to four weeks. Oyster blocks typically fruit in under a week; lion's mane in two to three.

It takes any ready-to-fruit block up to 2.7 kg (6 lb) per shelf, so you can use blocks from any UK grower, and a block costs a few pounds. The chamber is the appliance; the block is the ingredient.

Who the Double Layer is for

Households that cook with mushrooms several times a week, anyone who wants a fast oyster block running alongside a slower lion's mane, and growers who want a continuous supply rather than a single flush. Both shelves share one environment, so pair species with similar needs (the app's profiles tell you which).

Before you buy – please read

• App only. There are no buttons on the unit. You need a compatible smartphone and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network to set up and start a grow. Once running, a grow carries on if the Wi-Fi drops.
• 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one name, stand away from the router while pairing, or split the bands temporarily.
• Room temperature. The chamber controls humidity, airflow and light. It does not heat or cool. Keep it in a normal indoor room, out of direct sun, and not in a cold spare room, garage or conservatory in winter.
• Water. Use distilled or RO water in the reservoir.
• Slow starters are normal. Lion's mane shows nothing for the first week or so, then pins and fills out over the next two. That is the process working.
